rains. we do have wind advisories across portions of california, nevada and northern portions of the rockies where we can see wind gusts between 50-70 miles an hour. those conditions are very dangerous, not just the flooding and snow but strong winds. flooding across northern california and southern portions of oregon where we are talking about several inches falling today. we're expecting another storm as we head into tomorrow. we do have basically drier conditions across northern california. that will be the story for monday. next storm on tuesday will be taking more of a northerly track. portions of oregon will begin with the heaviest. northern parts of california and expecting heavy mountain snow. over a foot in some of the higher elevations of sierra. so i do want to bring you to the northeast because we're going to have to deal with some rain showers, nothing like california but heavier downpours in portions of upstate new york. >> gregg: maria, thanks very much. >> heather: holiday cheer in short supply on wall street. this is no ordinary year for stocks. >> gregg: diff

mellon wealth management >>> welcome back. there is simply no relief in northern california. the storms keep on coming. four of them in less than a week. one death is attributed to this terrible weather. more rain is actually expected today. meteorologist rob marciano is tracking all of this from the cnn weather center in atlanta what do you have for us? >> more rain over saturated soil. that's the problem. once we get rid of this one, we should see more of a drying pattern. in some cases they have received almost two feet of rainfall in a six-day period. flood watches remain up from seattle to just -- just south of medford, across northern california for another three, four inches of rainfall today. storm warnings up as well. it will be windy, high wind warnings posted for some of the mountains and higher crests of the sierras and cascades. here is your first pulse of rainfall for today. fourth storm in less than a week. this is a double whammy. we get a pulse this morning in the form of rain and snow. a warmer pulse later on today. that will sink down to the south and grab the norther

for that part of the region and some more snow expected, a good portion of northern california if you are taking interstate 5 up through shasta, be extra careful. there is a chance we could have some freeway closures. look at this winter storm warning out towards the sierra. snowfall 2 to 5 feet. that's a lot of snow and that could cause some problems on the roadway as we head into friday, saturday and sunday. here's our forecast model for today. we're starting out dry an increase in the high clouds. we do bring in a chance for rain showers up in the north bay. you will notice the south bay's still dry but then into early friday morning we're tracking rain clouds. we'll have wet pavement to start out our can friday morning commute. for today, increasing clouds, the chance of a shower up in the north bay, especially toward the latter portion of the afternoon. a pretty active forecast, some rain and wind, tapering off into the afternoon. a second storm producing heavier rain. saturday morning and possibly a third one into sunday as well. have to keep an eye on the rivers and the streams out there

storm to drench the west coast is still dumping rain across northern california. the system is slowly moving inland but not fast enough for folks who have seen 2 feet of rain in the past week. 9 storm soaked ground is giving way creating sinkholes and it caused tires, rather, trees to topple and the tires of the car cars, as well, into the homes. what is the latest from the weather center? >> a mess. but it will change. look at the storm totals across california: the mountain regions close to 2' of rain including washington and oregon where they got over a foot of rain. a lot of rain if a short period of time so flooding potential. look at the radar we have a cold front across the east we will talk about in a second but the west is going to clear out. we just have moisture moving into central california and the northwest is still going to remain unsettled for the next several days but things are going to dry out as we get into the weekend and early next week. trace? >>trace: that snow is good news for the mountains. i heard shepard talking about june-like weather on the east coast and

in the weather center at cnn. thank you. >>> a snowboarder killed in an avalanche in northern california. his body was found at the bottom of a ridge in three feet of snow at donner snow ranch. officer reports said he was buried for five hours. paramedics tried to save him but it was too late. >> we told ski patrol we're missing a guy, we're missing a guy and they didn't start looking for him until two, three hours later. >> they did an initial courtesy search around, didn't find anything. we're concerned for safety reasons because of the unstabilize that's up there. they kind backed o.nobody else was hurt. a u.s. airways crew smelled fuel while their empty plane sat parked in phoenix. when they checked it out, they saw flames shooting out of tail. fire crews put it out. nobody was hurt and no flights were delayed. a small engine under the tail was probably the source of the problem. the plane was supposed to head to vancouver. passengers were put on another flight. >> and the president is on the links. lawmakers are on a break and as santa slide down the last few chimneys this morning, a goo
